The new <i>Rhopalodia</i> species has valve features that place it within the <i>R. gibba</i> group of the genus, including a raphe in a short keel on the dorsal side of the valve and girdle bands that have small extensions that clasp over the costate fibulae. The species is distinguished from <i>R. gibba</i> and other allied species by valve shape.
