We consider, in particular, a switched-on inertial oscillation over a cosine-shaped ridge. Initially two systems of oscillations are excited over the ridge, inertial oscillations and oscillations with a topographically induced \"blue shift\". At the edges of the ridge inertial waves are generated by the switch-on process and propagate away. After the passage of the inertial waves the blue-shifted oscillations are annihilated and bottom intensified inertial oscillations remain over the ridge.
