The different direct and indirect risks associated with the microorganisms causing this pollution are reviewed. Results are given more in particular on contamination by mesophile aerobic flora, coliforms, <i<Escherichia coli</i> and fecal streptococs. The data for 20 sample campaings along the Belgian beaches are treated here and provided in two ways: tables of data from one site at different sample dates; graphs representing the evolution of contamination at the species level along the coast.
