The thesis is divided into four main chapters, each of these chapters<br>in turn into subchapters dealing with the issues of the country in question. The first chapter<br>assesses the importance of each border region, with the emphasis on military importance<br>given the current geopolitical situation in the world. The second chapter describes the<br>development of the borders and the state of the borders from the collapse of the USSR to<br>2020. The third chapter then deals with the current developments from 2020 onwards. In the<br>last chapter I analyse the geopolitical situation in the regions, the implications of Norway,<br>Finland and Estonia's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance and, finally,
