The considered species inhabit both hemispheres, predominantly in the coastal waters. Temperature and salinity ranges of species occurrence, defined from observations, were used to detect areas of favorable conditions based on climatological temperature and salinity on a global scale. These areas form zonally oriented continuous belts, adjacent to each other and separated by narrow intersection strips where conditions are favorable for both species. Zones of species habitat mostly correspond to climatic zonation of the World Ocean with some deviations in the regions affected by large-scale oceanic currents. In general, <i>B. cucumis</i> is confined to colder, less saline climatic zones, while <i>B. pseudocucumis</i> inhabits warmer, more saline waters. Besides the seasonal variations in favorable zones' area, during the summer season a virtual spatial shift of those zones to the north occurs, synchronous in both hemispheres. Long-term trends indicate that the regions with favorable habitat conditions since 2010-12 slightly expanded for <i>B. cucumis</i>, while such regions for <i>B. pseudocucumis</i> diminished.
