The effects of three cryoprotectants - dimethyl-sulfoxide (DMSO), dimethyl-acetamide (DMA) and methanol - and three basic extenders - two organic and one saline - were investigated on the motility and fertilising capacity of sterlet sperm. Best post-thaw motility (46 plus or minus 23%) was achieved using 10 % methanol. No significant difference was detected between the two organic extenders.
