Such models were set up for five European estuaries (Scheldt, &nbsp;Elbe, Seine, Humber, Weser) in order to do a quickscan of the potential of a 100ha FCA-CRT at three different &nbsp;locations along the estuary. The functioning of the areas is evaluated for ecological development inside the &nbsp;areas, and for flood protection along the estuary. The presented method is generally applicable to other &nbsp;estuaries, and has only limited data requirements. The results show that inside the areas, a controlled &nbsp;reduced tide of approximately 15–25% of the estuarine tidal amplitude is achievable with a simple design &nbsp;rule for the culverts. One 100ha FCA also provides a reduction of high water levels during storms in the order &nbsp;of 1-5 cm. This effect extends tens of kilometers up- and downstream the location of the FCA, and is most &nbsp;pronounced when the FCA is located at an upstream location.</span>","AbstractOtherLang":null,"BibLvlCode":"MS","StandardTitle":"LIFE Sparc: sub report 5.
