This system combines advanced hydraulic technologies, principles of environmental sustainability and ecological integration. In this article, we will analyse the development, implementation, operation and evaluation of the Belgian tide containment system, with a special focus on the Flanders region. We will address the historical evolution of coastal policies in Belgium, the legal and administrative framework regulating hydraulic infrastructure, evaluate the socio-economic and environmental impact of the system in Belgium, and examine its possible implementation in similar geographical and climatic contexts.
