Specimens of the new species were collected as bycatch from stake nets operated at approximately 3 meters depth. The new species is assigned to the <i>A. edwardsii</i> (Audouin, 1826) group. <i>Alpheus harii</i> spec. nov. is morphologically similar to <i>A. nipa</i> Banner &amp; Banner, 1985 and <i>A. cyanoteles</i> Yeo &amp; Ng, 1997, both currently assigned to the <i>A. euphrosyne</i> De Man, 1897–<i>A. microrhynchus</i> De Man, 1897 species complex, but differs from the latter two species in a number of characters including a distinct rostral carina and adrostral furrows reaching posterior to the eye level, the unarmed ventromesial margin of the first article of the antennular peduncle and the presence of a distinct transverse ridge on the mesial surface of the major chela.
