The amount of organic carbon assimilated in spring was calculated, and related to the decrease of inorganic nitrogen nutrients. From this relation a C/N ratio was calculated and this ratio was compared with ratio-data from literature. From this comparison, it was concluded that the decrease of inorganic nitrogen nutrients in spring was caused by assimilation and not by tidal exchange with the sea.
