In 1990 a new coastal policy was introduced, in which sand nourishment is the major means to control coastal erosion. The national government has undertaken the task to bring the structural coastal erosion to a halt. The coastline of 1990, called the basal coastline, is the standard in this. As no structural erosion is allowed anymore, but the natural behaviour of the coastal area is to remain as well as possible, this is called Dynamic Preservation. In this report the coastal management is evaluated from a morphological approach. It appears that the coastal retreat can be stopped with sand nourishments, though there is some concern about the sustainability of the method in the case of very steep underwater slopes. The sand balance of the erosion areas has been balanced. The space needed for the various coastal functions is being guaranteed with sand nourishment. The safety against flooding of the polders and objects in the dunes is not decreasing anymore. No dune area is being lost and the recreational beaches are becoming larger. To work more economical and to work more with nature sand has been supplied to the (underwater) shore face as much as possible in the last few years. This period of experience is still too short for an evaluation, but the results are encouraging.","AbstractOtherLang":"In Nederland is al ongeveer 25 jaar ervaring opgedaan met zandsuppletie als een maatregel om stranden en duinen te herstellen na kusterosie en zwakke duinregels te verzwaren. In 1990 is een nieuw kustbeleid ingevoerd, waarbij zandsuppleties als belangrijkste middel is gekozen om de kusterosie te bestrijden. De rijksoverheid heeft de taak op zich genomen om de structurele kustachteruitgang te stoppen. De kustlijn van 1990, basiskustlijn genoemd, geldt hierbij als norm. Omdat geen structurele erosie meer mag optreden, maar wel het natuurlijke kustgedrag zo veel mogelijk wordt toegelaten, spreekt men van Dynamisch Handhaven. In dit rapport wordt vanuit een morfologische invalshoek het kustbeleid geëvalueerd. Het blijkt dat de kustachteruitgang met zandsuppleties kan worden gestopt, hoewel er wel enige zorg bestaat over de duurzaamheid van de methode bij zeer steile onderwater-oevers. De zandbalans van de erosiegebieden is in evenwicht gebracht. Met de zandsuppleties wordt de benodigde ruimte voor de diverse kustfuncties gewaarborgd. De veiligheid tegen overstroming van het polderland en van objecten in de duinen neemt niet meer af. Er gaat geen duinareaal meer verloren en de recreatiestranden worden groter. Om goedkoper en meer met de natuur mee te werken wordt de laatste jaren zo veel mogelijk op de onderwateroever gesuppleerd.
