The preservation potential of ash layers in the more marginal facies of the London Basin, the Paris Basin, Belgium and the southem Netherlands is, however, relatively low. Tephra layers have nevertheless, been recorded from the Woolwich Beds of the London Basin and from the Sables et Argiles à Ostracodes et Mollusques of Varengeville, northeast France.
