This network in the external wall exists together with a linear pathway at the level of communication pores in partitions, that Hiller first described in <i>Electra</i>. In active autozooids, the cells stained with methylene blue are arranged around the frontal area into a linear chain, following the motor parietal nerve. They are an equivalent for the diffuse nerve fibres of the sensory parietal branch of the great nerves of the tentacle sheath which surrounds the opesia in <i>Electra</i>. The other ramifications of the nerves of the tentacle sheath are similar in <i>F. papyracea</i> and <i>Electra</i>. The muscles of the ovicell might be served by a ramification of the motor parietal nerve of the autozooid.
