It spreads forward and backward from the larval gland which seems to belong to the maxillulary segment. The nucleoplasmic ratio reaches its highest value during the C period and its lowest one in D (especially D SUB-2 ). The organ volume varies in an opposite manner. The noticed variations in nuclear volumes are not significant. Mitoses occur during the C and D periods. Their maximal frequency has been observed in D SUB-1 stage.
