Hinge morphogenesis has been studied under the scanning electron microscope from the birth of the prodissoconch II denticles until their regression in the young dissoconch. These observations reveal the originality of the hinge in this species and allow to confirm the determination of the genus <i>Saccostrea</i> within the famility of Ostreidae.
