At the end of the summer, the accumulation of ammonium and nitrates is related with an input of organic matter resulting from oyster's biodeposition. Ammonium is mainly released into the water column. During autumn, the accumulation and the fluxes of ammonium decrease; nitrates are taken up by the sediment. In winter, both nitrates and ammonium are absorbed, but only ammonium is regenerated in the sediment.
