Thirty five species have been identified. The Mira Estuary shows clear marine affinity as far as 7.5 km from the sea, which is demonstrated by the high number of marine amphipod species. A clear brackish-water influence is responsible for the decrease in the species number in the sector localized between 7.5 and 27.5 km from the sea, which is the limit of the studied area.
