The type species of Spirinia, <i>S. parasitifera</i> (Bastian, 1865) is redescribed: additional morphological information is given on the head structure and the copulatory apparatus. The two subgenera of Spirinia : <i>S. (Spirinia)</i> Gerlach, 1963 and <i>S.
