The host is <span class=\"italic\">Echiichthys vipera</span> (Trachinidae) the lesser weever fish, the isopod attaching to the host tongue. A complete redescription and reillustration for <span class=\"italic\">C. steindachneri</span> is given, and a neotype is selected for the species <span class=\"italic\">Ceratothoa parallela</span>.
