The vegetated site was characterized by the highest densities, species richness and biomass of the macrofauna from that found at bare substrates. Sediments were coarser in the bare sand than in the grassbed. Trophic structure is also influenced by the eelgrass: deposit-feeders showed their highest abundance in the seagrass bed whilst carnivores and suspension-feeders were more abundant in the unvegetated area. Ordination analysis and correlations between physico-chemical parameters and samples reveal that organic matter, fine sands, silt and clay contents, are the discriminant factors in species spatial distribution.
