Two field experiments were carried out to test the separate and combined effects of these factors. One of the experiments was duplicated with seeds originating from another <i>Z. marina</i> population to test possible differences in donor suitability. In both experiments, germination, seedling survival and shoot increase were monitored for 13 weeks. Muddy sediments were most suitable to germination (P = 0.10). Seedling survival differed between donor populations (P < 0.05), indicating the importance of careful selection of the donor population in restoration programs.
