Special attention was given to the Schor Van Doel (between the Belgian-Dutch border and the nuclear power plant of Doel at the left bank of the river .Thirty-two vegetation relevés were made, in which 39 species, including two algae were recorded. The species belong to nineteen families. Poaceae (15 %), Chenopodiaceae (13 %), Asteraceae and Polygonaceae (8 % each) are the most important families present in the flora of the area under investigation.The Two Way Indicator Species Analysis (TWINSPAN) classified the vegetation into nine plant communities. Three of these communities are bound to the fresh marsh habitat upstream the village of Lillo; their characteristic species combinations are: Scirpus tabemaemontani, Phragmites australis-Calysfegia sepium and Scirpus tabemaemontani- Spergularia salina respectively. The other six communities are represtatives of the brackish marsh habitat downstream the village of Lillo. Their characteristic species combinations are: Phragmites australis- Asfer tripolium, Elymus alhericus, Afriplex prostrafa, Scirpus maritimus, Puccinellia marifima-Plantago maritime, and Vaucheria-Salicomia brachystachya- Salicomia dolichostachya. All six plant communities were recognized at the Schor Van Doel, where they were mapped and compared with the former vegetation.Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA) and Detrended Canonica1 Correspondence Ana1ysis (DCCA) were used to study species-environment relationships. The distribution of species and communities was best correlated with site elevation, reflecting inundation frequency and soil texture.The results indicate that at the present elevation, and absence of disturbance (cattle grazing), the vegetation will within soon be completely dominated by Elymus athericus and/or Phragmites australis. This suggests the urgency of re-introduction of grazing and/or mowing to refresh the halophytic elements and to obtain higher diversity. This will attribute to the nature conservancy value of the area.","AbstractOtherLang":"Onderhavige studie geeft een a]gemeen beeld van de relatie tussen de vegetatie op de schorren langs de oevers van de Zeeschelde tussen Antwerpen en de Belgisch-Nederlandse grens en de milieufactoren, die de variatie in de vegetatie dicteren. Speciale aandacht werd besteed aan de Schor van Doe] (tussen de Belgisch-Nederlandse grens en de kerncentrale van Doel langs de linkeroever van de rivier) waar de vegetatiezonatie werd geanalyseerd en waar de vegetatie in kaart werd gebracht.Er werden 32 vegetatie-opnamen gemaakt waarin in totaal 39 soorten (inclusief twee wiersoorten) werden waargenomen. De soorten behoren tot 19 families. Poaceae (15 %), Chenopodiaceae (13 %), Asteraceae en Polygonaceae (elk 8 %) zijn de belangrijkste families in de flora van het studiegebied.De Two-Way-Indicator-Species-Analysis (TWINSPAN) onderscheidde negen plantengemeenschappen. Drie van deze gemeenschappen zijn gebonden aan de zoetwaterhabitat stroomopwaarts van Lillo. Hun kenmerkende soorten(combinaties) zijn respectievelijk Scirpus tabernaemontani, Phragmites australis-Calystegia sepium en Scirpus tabernaemontani-Spergularia salina. De zes overige gemeenschappen zijn representatief voor de brakwaterschorren stroomafwaarts van Lillo. Hun kenmerkende soorten(combinaties) zijn respectievelijk Phragmites australis-Aster tripolium, Elymus athericus, Atriplex prostrata, Scirpus maritimus, Puccinellia maritima-Plantago maritima en Vaucheria-Salicornia brachystachya-Salicornia dolichostachya. Deze zes plantengemeenschappen werden alle aangetroffen op de Schor van Doel waar ze in kaart werden gebracht en vergeleken met de vroeger in het gebied aangetroffen plantengemeenschappen.Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA) en Detrended Canonical Correspondence Analysis (DCCA) werden toegepast bij de studie van de soort-milieurelaties. De verdeling van de soorten en gemeenschappen vertoonde de grootste correlatie met de hoogteligging, representatief voor de overspoelingsfrequentie en de bodemtextuur.De resultaten geven aan dat bij de huidige hoogteligging en bij afwezigheid van storingsfactoren (begrazing door vee of maaien) de vegetatie binnenkort volledig zal gedomineerd worden door Elymus athericus en/of Phragmites australis. Dit wijst op de noodzaak van het herintroduceren van begrazing en/of maaien opdat het typische halofytenaspect van de brakwaterschor zou hersteld worden. Het systeem zou hierdoor aan diversiteit winnen wat zou bijdragen tot een hogere natuurwaarde van het gebied.","BibLvlCode":"M","StandardTitle":"Fytosociologische en ecologische aspecten van brakwaterschorren langs de Zeeschelde (België) = Phytosociological and ecological aspects of the brackish salt marshes along the Zeeschelde (Belgium)","OrigTitleLangCode":"nl","OrigTitleLangCodeExtended":"dut","OrigTitleLangID":41,"DateLastModified":{"date":"2024-12-10 01:33:17.368041","timezone_type":1,"timezone":"+01:00"},"UserAccessRight":null,"UserAccID":null,"AuthorKeywords":null,"OtherDescriptors":null,"Notes":null,"AnaPub":null,"MonPub":1993,"DateUpdate":"2014-09-01","DateCreate":"2004-11-16","SecASFANote":null,"ConfID":null,"PeerRev":null,"VlizCoreFlag":1,"WoScode":null,"VABBcode":null,"OpenAcc":0},"refs":null,"anarec":null,"monrec":{"MonID":67997,"ISBN":null,"PubliDate":1993,"IssueDate":null,"Volume":null,"Issue":null,"Pagination":"IV, 80","Place":"Gent","Edition":null,"BRefXtra":null,"BRefXtraRR":null,"SerID":null,"SerRR":null,"Ser2BRefID":null,"Ser2RR":null,"StandardTitleSer":null,"ISSN":null,"AbbrevSer":null,"Degree":"MSc","ThesisID":67997,"InsID":4801,"Acronym":null,"FullStandardName":"Ghent University;
