From a bi-national point of view (Flanders plusthe Netherlands), deepening is socially profitable. In this case, the project yields a positivebalance sheet of 0.6 to 1.6 billion euro.The market share of Antwerp will experience an important decline of about one third of itsactual share if the Scheldt’s waterway is not enlarged. This decline will be absorbed byRotterdam to a large extent. The market share of Rotterdam will increase anyway, regardless ofwhether the Scheldt’s waterway is enlarged or not, because of the expected increase in the scaleof container shipping.","AbstractOtherLang":"Vanuit een Europees perspectief is verruiming van de vaarweg van de Schelde tot 13,1 m getijongebondenvoor alle onderzochte scenario’s en varianten maatschappelijk rendabel. Het project laat een batig saldo van 1 à 2,3 miljard euro zien. Totstandkoming van de verruiming van de vaarweg van de Schelde geeft zowel voor Vlaanderen als Nederland baten, als gevolg van lagere vervoerskosten voor de Vlaamse en Nederlandse verladers. Ook uit een binationaal perspectief (Vlaanderen plus Nederland) is verruiming maatschappelijk rendabel. Het batig saldo ligt tussen 0,6 en 1,6 miljard euro.Zonder verruiming van de vaarweg van de Schelde zal het marktaandeel van Antwerpen in de containersector op de lange termijn met ca. een derde dalen ten opzichte van het huidige marktaandeel. Deze daling zal bijna geheel opgevangen worden door Rotterdam.
