In terms of the other Mediterranean Sparidae, the GSI values obtained rank in the middle of the scale, being 3.9 ± 1.4% (X ± SD) in spawning females, and 2.0 ± 0.9% in mature males. The GSI of primary males was lower (0.3 ± 0.8), suggesting that there is no sperm competition in this species.
