These chronological data series have allowed intra-site and inter-site changes to be investigated along a climate gradient from the temperate Atlantic waters to the Continental climate further east. The macrobenthic fauna is a good candidate to evaluate the environmental changes of the marine coastal ecosystems. Chronological analyses on the communities and on the dominant <i>Abra alba</i> species show that the overall changes are different among the sites in spite of similar climatic environments all with a 7-year cycle and a similar type of community. Two main lessons appear: 1. it is absolutely necessary to have reference sites to measure the effect of a perturbation, 2. the responses are specific. Now, it is important to continue long-term surveys on these communities for several decades, in order to have any chance of discerning long-term changes in the English Channel and North Sea coastal ecosystem.","AbstractOtherLang":"Pendant les vingt dernières années, la macrofaune benthique du peuplement sablo-vaseux à <i>Abra alba</i> a fait l'objet d'observations regulières en quatre sites de la Manche et de la mer du Nord: Pierre Noire et Rivière de Morlaix en baie de Morlaix, Baie de Seine et Gravelines dans le sud de la mer du Nord. Ces séries chronologiques se prêtent particulièrement bien à une analyse intra- et inter-sites le long d'un gradient climatique caractérisé à l'ouest par l'influence atlantique et à l'est par une influence continentale, d'autant que le macrobenthos se révèle un excellent témoin des variations de l'environnement. Les analyses réalisées sur les assemblages faunistiques ou sur une espèce de bivalve, <i>Abra alba</i>, présente en abondance dans tous les sites, illustrent des changements globaux relativements différents d'un site à l'autre malgré un environnement climatique à méso-échelle relativement comparable, marqué par un cycle climatique avec une période de sept ans et un contexte cénotique équivalent. Deux éléments essentiels apparaissent: 1. la nécessité d' avoir des sites de référence avant d'interpréter les conséquences d'une perturbation, 2. l'existence de réponses spécifiques des organismes benthiques aux atteintes naturelles ou anthropiques de l'environnement.
