We denken niet direkt aaneb en vloed. In beide gevallen hebben we echter met golven te maken. In het laatste gevalspreken we over getijdegolven, in het eerste geval spreken we over zeegang en/of deining. Webeperken ons hier tot de numerieke modellen die de voortplanting van zeegang en deiningberekenen. Een bijkomende beperking is dat enkel in meer detail zal ingegaan worden op dezogenaamde spectrale golfmodellen.De historische achtergrond, de huidige ‘state of the art’, en het gebruik van spectrale modellenwordt kort geschetst. Daarna worden de verschillende fysische processen beschreven. In diepwater zijn slechts een beperkt aantal processen actief. Naarmate men van diep naar ondiep watergaat worden de processen die de interactie met de bodem in rekening brengen belangrijker.Als illustratie worden twee voorbeelden getoond. Het eerste voorbeeld is een hindcast voor deNoordzee, dus in relatief diep water. Daarna wordt ook een voorbeeld in ondiep water getoond,namelijk een berekening voor de Belgische kust.
