Chemical composition of zircon crystals changes as a function of the mantle, hybrid or crustal origin of granitic rocks (oceanic or continental). Oceanic tholeiitic differentiates have specific zircons with low HfO<sub>2</sub>  (mainly <1%) and high Y contents.
