Bibliographies on problems relating to sea level research and covering the literature up to the 1950s have been published by the International Association for Physical Oceanography (1955, 1957a, b), and a bibliography specifically on mean sea level is at present being prepared by the same Association. Although there has recently been an increase of activity in this field much remains to be done: we have little information on a global scale, most papers being restricted to local or regional problems.
