The MF was present in females as well as in males, although no clear-cut differences between sexes were observed. Levels of MF found in the hemolymph of intact animals were 0.5-1.0 ng/ml irrespective of the sex. Although the observations are still limited, females showed oscillations in MF that seem to parallel the vitellogenic cycle.
