Ook de voornaamste zijlopen van de Leie werden (tot aan de eerste limnigraaf) in het model gebracht: de Heulebeek, de Mandel en de Poekebeek.. Om de modelnauwkeurigheid te verhogen werden ook delen van de Ringvaart, het kanaal Gent-Oostende (tot Beernem) en de Bovenschelde (vanaf Asper) mee in het model opgenomen.<br><br>De geometrie van de dwarssecties die in het model werden ingevoerd, werd grotendeels opgemeten in 2003. De Heulebeek, de Mandel en de Poekebeek (1ste categorie) waren al eerder opgemeten in opdracht van AMINAL afdeling Water. Het Afleidingskanaal, de Ringvaart en het kanaal Gent-Oostende werden nog niet opgemeten en hiervoor werden typeprofielen gebruikt (SWK & Lapère, 2002 en IMDC, 2001). Alle dwarssecties werden visueel gecontroleerd en indien nodig verbeterd of verwijderd.<br><br>De belangrijkste hydraulische structuren, zoals vaste en beweegbare stuwen, pompen, duikers en bruggen met een belangrijke hydraulische invloed werden in het model ingebracht via de daartoe voorziene modelelementen.<br><br>Bij de opbouw van het numerieke model werd bijzondere aandacht besteed aan een correcte modellering van de al dan niet gewenste overstromingsgebieden. AI naar gelang het geval werd hiervoor gebruik gemaakt van parallelle takken en/of reservoirs met elkaar en met de hoofdwaterloop verbonden door middel van link channels. De geometrie van deze takken en reservoirs werd afgeleid uit de beschikbare DTM's (Digitaal Terrein Model). De in het model ingebrachte overloopgebieden zijn uitgestrekt, zodat extreme events nauwkeurig kunnen worden gesimuleerd.<br><br>Het hydrodynamisch model werd gekalibreerd en gevalideerd aan de hand van twee belangrijke historische gebeurtenissen (december 1999 en december 2002). Twee andere gebeurtenissen (december 1993 en januari 1995) werden zonder de historische werking van de structuren doorgerekend. Tijdens de kalibratie en validatie werden ter hoogte van de verschillende tijposten en limnigrafen waargenomen en berekende waterstanden met elkaar vergeleken.<br><br>Voor de event van december 2002 kon ook de uitgestrektheid van de gesimuleerde en waargenomen overstromingen worden vergeleken.<br><br>De afwijkingen op de hoogwaters blijven meestal beperkt tot een tiental centimeters. Tijdens de kalibratieprocedure werd vooral gelet op de correctheid van het model voor de hoogwaters.<br><br>Over het algemeen kan worden gesteld dat de waargenomen en berekende waterstanden een goede overeenkomst vertonen.<br><br>Het gekalibreerde numerieke model zal vervolgens worden gebruikt voor de analyse van een aantal off-line scenario's die in de loop van 2004 zullen worden doorgerekend.","BibLvlCode":"M","StandardTitle":"Opmaak van numerieke hydrologische en hydraulische modellen van het Leiebekken: deel IV.
