Deze \"weerstand\" wordt meestal bepaald door de bodemvormdimensies en in mindere mate door de sedimentkorrels. <br> Van Rijn en Fredsoe ontwikkelden relaties om die bodemvormdimensies te voorspellen uitgaande van rivierparameters zoals: debiet, snelheid, waterdiepte, granulometrie van het sediment, enz .... Een parameterstudie is uitgevoerd op deze theori~n ten einde hun variabiliteit en sensitiviteit t.o.v. de praktisch bepaalde rivierparameters te detekteren. De ruwheidsvoorspellers van Van Rijn en Engelund zijn onder dezelfde studie bestudeerd. <br> In bijlage B zijn gedetailleerd de meetprocedures, toege¬past op de 6-daagse meetkampagne te Zaïre, besproken om de lezer een goed beeld te geven van de meetomstandigheden.  Deze kampagne leverde de data voor de toetsing van de theoriën boven vermeld. <br> Als een van de belangrijkste konklusies uit het eindwerk blijkt dat Fredsoe's bodemvormvoorspeller (met de Meyer-Peter-Muller formule gebruikt als transportformule) een goed resultaat geeft indien het suspensietransport t.o.v. het bodemtransport verwaarloosbaar is. In het andere geval geeft Van Rijn betere resultaten. <br> Algemeen worden de bodemvormdimensies door beiden onderschat. Fredsoe's theorie is door zijn grote gevoeligheid ten overstaan van een aantal parameters, (wij denken hier vooral aan de representatieve korreldiameter), niet zeer geschikt voor toepassingen op natuurlijke alluviale stromen.
