Juvenile twaite shad were caught for diet analysis with framed gape stow nets in the mesohaline region of the Elbe estuary in April, July and August 1993. Copepods, mysids and fish were identified as main food items of juvenile twaite shad. In August, the importance of mysids and fish as main prey organisms increased with increasing total length of twaite shad, whereas the proportion of copepods decreased. During night fishes were consumed to a lesser extent than during day. Insects were mainly eaten during night. In the early morning copepods Mesopodopsis slabberi and the sprat Sprattus sprattus. Cladocerans were ingested corresponding to their availability, whereas all other food items were avoided. Daily ration according to WINBERG (1956) showed peak values in spring and summer and decreased during the following season. The maximum daily ration of about 45 % of body wet weight was calculated in May. Daily ration decreased with increasing age of juvenile twaite shad.","AbstractOtherLang":" Laobjectif de cette etude est daexaminer le regime alimentaire saisonnier et journalier en fonction de la taille, ainsi que la selectivite alimentaire et la ration journaliere chez les juveniles daalose feinte, issus de laestuaire de la riviere Elbe. La capture des individus examines a l'aide de filet a armature saest deroulee en avril, juillet et aout 1993 dans le domaine mesohalin estuarien. Copepodes, mysidaces et poissons ont ete identifies comme etant les composantes alimentaires principales. La consommation en poissons et en mysidaces augmente avec laaccroissement de la longueur totale. En aout dans le meme temps, on observe une diminution de la consommation en copepodes. Les poissons representent la nuit une moindre part dans le bol alimentaire par rapport au jour. Les plus fortes proportions de copepodes dans le bol alimentaire ont ete observees au matin tres tot et laapres-midi. Une selection positivement significative a ete calculee pour les mysidaces Mesopodopsis slabberi et les sprats Sprattus sprattus et les cladoceres ont ete consommes selon laoffre. Pour les autres composantes alimentaires, un indice de selection negativement significatif a ete calcule. La ration alimentaire daapres WINBERG (1956) est caracterisee par une valeur elevee au printemps et en ete et une diminution au cours des autres saisons. La ration journaliere maximale avec une valeur de 45 % a ete observee en mai 1992.
