Dataare stored in the Swedish archive for oceanographic data (SHARK) database, curated by SMHI.","EngDescr":"Phytoplankton constitute an important part of of the pelagic food webs. These organisms are primary producers (phytoplankton) and is the primary food source for zooplankton linking to higher trophic levels (zooplanktivorous fish and invertebrates). Biotoxin producing phytoplankton can harm animals, people or the local ecology in a number of differrent ways. This monitoring program is focused toward potentially harmful algae. Sampling provides information to describe species composition and spatial distribution of biotoxin producing phytoplankton abundance and biomass. Data is collected and analyzed according to the Helcom COMBINE Manual - Part C Annex C6 Phytoplankton (https://helcom.fi/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/HELCOM-Guidelines-for-monitoring-of-phytoplankton-species-composition-abundance-and-biomass.pdf) or similar methods. Seawater samples are collected with a hose that hangs vertically in the water and then sealed to gather a mixture of water (an integrated sample) from different depths.
