Offshore windfarms promise to become an important energy source. Building these farms, many engineering problems arise. One specific problem concerns the local scouring of bottom material due to the combined action of currents and waves. The aim of the study is to improve existing design criteria for scour protections, based on a literature study, an experimental study and numerical modelling.

Offshore windmolenparken zullen in de nabije toekomst een belangrijke rol als hernieuwbare energiebron spelen. Een belangrijk inginieursprobleem vormt de lokale erosie van het bodemmateriaal door de gecombineerde actie van golven en stroming. Het doel van de studie is bestaande criteria voor het ontwerp van erosiebeschermingen te evalueren en verbeteren op basis van een literatuurstudie, een experimentele studie en numerieke modellering.
