Abstract
    A numerical model was used to simulate the vertical distribution of dissolved inorganic nitrate in tidal flat sediments. The effect of the periodically changing concentrations of oxygen and nitrate at the sediment surface on nitrification and denitrification during each tidal cycle was studied.
