Abstract
Audouinella tetraspora sp. nov. is described from cultured material. It is distinguished from other endophytic species of Acrochaetiaceae on the basis of cell dimensions, chloroplast and pyrenoid characteristics, and the presence of tetrasporangia, which are the only reproductive structures produced by the plant. The life history consists of repeating generations of tetraspore bearing plants (macro-phase), although more irregular plants with smaller cells (micro-phase) are formed under low light intesities on which no reproductive bodies have been observed.
