| Abstract |
A new bivalve, Tellina (Moerella) ciucianensis n. sp. , is described from the Early Pliocene of central Tuscany (Northern Italy). The new species is notably similar to Tellina (Oudardia) compressa (Brocchi, 1814), with which it has been confused. The new species differs by having a different sculpture, consisting of only growth strie, without the oblique ridges occurring in the latter. Furthermore, the new species lacks the internal anterior radial ridge which is typical to the subgenus Oudardia. Tellina (Moerella) ciucianensis n. sp. was also compared with Tellina (Moerella) donacina Linné, 1758, which mainly differs by having a much stronger commarginal sculpture. |
