Abstract
A new genus and species of xenocongrid eel, Catesbya pseudomuraena, is described, based upon one specimen from inshore waters of the Bahamas. Chlopsis dentatus is recorded from the Indian Ocean and figured for the first time. Kaupichthys atlanticus and K. diodontus are considered synonymous, based upon a study of variation in vertebral numbers, and the older name hyoproroides, based upon a larva, is employed for the species. Several other xenocongrids are discussed briefly: their head pores, vertebral numbers, or distributions.
