| Abstract |
In order to examine the phylogenetic position of a marine red alga Bangia atropurpurea strain Om-1 (here after OM-1) which was collected at Omaezaki beach, Shizuoka, Japan, the complete SSU rDNA sequence of OM-1 was determined. The SSU rDNA sequence is 3,004 bp in length and contains two unalignable sequences with other SSU rDNA. The phylogenetic tree constructed by the neighbor-joining method indicates that OM-1 is located in the Porphyra lineage and is distantly related to B. atropurpurea strain NRCC10774 (here after NRCC10774). Furthermore, similarity of SSU rDNA between OM-1 and NRCC10774 is 91.9%. In this sutdy, we also discuss possible taxonomic and evolutionary relationships between Bangia and Porphyra |
