Abstract
The superfamily of Pectinoidea is represented in the French West lndies, Guadeloupe and Martinique, by 34 species plus one potentially present, belonging to 2 families, the Pectinidae and the Propeamussiidae which makes a relatively well-diversified bivalve group and whose distribution, both horizontal and vertical, stretches from the coastal areas to the deepest bathyal zones with, however, greater numbers of both species and individuals on the insular shelves. The inventory of species and the comparison with the other sectors of the Caribbean zone do not show any particular endemism. However, one species is described as new and attributed to the genus Spathochlamys Waller, 1993 because of its general morphology, the ornamental structure of the disk, the byssal notch, its pattern and coloration. Together these characteristics show a close link with S. benedicti (Verrill &Bush, 1897), from which it differs by some distinctive attributessuch as the micro-structure of the valves, the byssal indentation, the loss of ctenolium in the adult as weil as some other secondary aspects. Furthermore, no concentration of species leading to a possibleexploitation of economic interest has been observed in the French West lndies.
