Abstract
Ten species of bryozoans were originally described from Mazatlán (southern Gulf of California, Mexico) in Busk (1856). The publication by Busk was reviewed and the types were tracked down at the Natural History Museum, United Kingdom. The literature revision allowed the recognition of Rylands as the author of two species: Thalamoporella gothica (described as Membranipora gothica) and Watersipora atrofusca (described as Lepralia atrofusca); to correct the year of publication in some species (1856 instead of 1855) and to provide information on poorly known species described with Mazatlán as the type locality.
