Abstract
This book is an update on present knowledge of fish populations in large water bodies and fishing management: characteristics and fish management of hydroelectric dams, the place fish populations hold in lake ecosystems, impact of fishing management on the quality of the aquatic environment. The modern methods of studying fish communities are presented (sampling, tagging, echosounding). Stocking practices for salmonids are explained in detail and the fishing statistics used on subalpine lakes are described as an example. All this information makes it possible to envisage using models in the management of fish populations.
