Abstract
A conchological analysis of the subgenera of Caecum was performed, considering the variations among the different growth stages. Only Meioceras is considered a valid taxon, since there is a broad superposition of diagnostic conchological characters among subgenera (Caecum, Brochina, Elephantulum and Fartulum). Bambusum shows no character supporting it as a distinct taxon from Elephantulum and their differences are attributed to individual rather than subgeneric characteristics. The generic status of Meioceras is supported by its helicoidal growth pattern beginning in the second stage.
