| Abstract |
Significant differences (Student's test) were found in the average concn of 13 free amino acids of the hemolymph of C. maenas when the animals were maintained in an environment overloaded with 10 mg/l of cobalt chloride. In 'polluted' animals the concn of 10 'non essential' amino acids (cysteic, aspartic and glutamic acids, glycine, alanine, 1-methylhistidine, arginine and ASN+glutamine) increased whereas the concn of 3 'essential' amino acids (methionine, lysine and histidine) decreased. The functions of these amino acids on metabolism (osmoregulation, amino acid synthesis, energetic function, etc.) are well known. |
