| Abstract |
A benthic ecological study of the subtidal zone was made in Santander Bay. Main established faunistical communities were defined in relation to qualitative cenotic analysis (Coefficient of point correlation) and multivariant analysis (correspondence analysis). Within the faunal assemblage, two major communities were distinguished: Abra alba community in the inner area of the bay. A sandy community characterised by the Pagurid Diogenes pugilator, the Cumacean Iphinoe trispinosa and the Polychaete Nephtys cirrosa, in the oceanic influential area. The sedimentary study, based on granulometric analysis, organic carbon and carbonates, revealed a clear parallelism with the communities defined. |
