The project investigates whether implementing a longer, land-based trap-and-transport route that bypasses the Baltic Sea can improve survival rates and increase the likelihood of successful spawning migration in European eels. This work is embedded within the broader national “Krafttag Ål” program aimed at reducing mortality associated with turbine passage. Through this study, we aim to provide critical data to guide policy and management decisions for eel conservation. The project is a collaboration between the department of Wildlife, Fish, and Environmental Studies at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, which manages the work, and partners Tekniska verken and Vattenfall Vattenkraft.
