| Abstract |
An ecological and physiological study of I. Chelipes from Lake Veere, Netherlands, was made. Both osmoregulatory capacity and survival decrease with increasing temp as well as with decreasing salinity. Respiration experiments suggest that the need of energy by osmoregulatory activity may be supplied at the cost of other physiological processes, at any rate at temperatures of 10°C and higher. It may be expected that, if temperatures higher than 15°C and salinities lower than 8 ppt coincide, the population of I. chelipes will be affected negatively. |
