Abstract
The characteristics of the grain-size distribution have been defined by the statistical parameters of Folk. The sediments of open beaches, consisting for the main part of fine sands, show a good sorting; the distribution is nearly symmetrical. Those of the closed-in beaches, consisting mainly of moderate and coarse sands, are moderately sorted and show a slight negative skewness. The heavy minerals contain mainly three groups : amphiboles (hornblende and, in the south, glaucophane from the island of Groix), epidote and garnet. Ubiquists, pyroxenes and parametamorphic minerals appear only in small quantities or are lacking.
