Abstract
Leporiconus pomareae n.sp., a new endemic species of Conidae from French Polynesia is described. Up to now, this species was confused with L. tenuistriatus (Sowerby II, 1858), which has a different geographical range and a distinctive outline. Morphometric measurements and DNA analysis prove these t wo species are separate. The new species is compared with Leporiconus relatives: L. glans (Kwass In Bruguiere, 1792), L. coffeae (Gmelin, 1791), L.granum (Röckel & Fischöder, 1985) and also with other species with wich it might be confused.
