| Abstract |
Cladistic phylogenies for malacostracan Crustacea have been assembled by many authors. Consistent faunal associations of Late Paleozoic malacostracans can form a basis for assembly of a community phylogeny in these arthropods. Consideration of crustacean feeding types, ranges, and associations of taxa reveal continuity of community structure. At least four faunal assemblages are recognized (near-shore marine, brackish water, off-shore marine, and lagoonal) in addition to some other possible assemblages. This suggests the possibility of developing a faunal phylogeny for Late Paleozoic crustaceans with implications for taxonomic groups as well. |
